If Captain Planet has taught me anything, it's that racial issues in communities are only ever pointed out by overly camp villains trying to sell everybody guns and/or steal the treasure. Following that logic, by supposing a story in your "stripped comic serials" where race plays a dimension in a mixed race family, you are obviously Charles Manson in heels.

Yeah, fun trivia: I briefly thought about having Blaine blame specifically a black dude for doing the damage to him that Amazi-Girl did, rather than just a generic nonraced male person.  But in Dumbing of Age I want racism to be something subtle our protagonists do, rather than something more overt which is pointed and laughed at within our villains.  Having Blaine be racist is too easy.  Having Walky or Joyce or Dorothy have to confront their own issues addresses the idea of actual racism better.
