Actually Wheeljack’s paintjob wasn’t based on one specific car, but the Alitalia livery used by all racing Lancias in the 70s, as Wheeljack’s vehicle mode was a Lancia Stratos.

So the real issue is why he turns into a rally car that hadn’t been made in 10 years at that point, from a company with a reputation for all their cars basically being made of rust, that, yes, was never sold in North America.
