That Strongarm is one of the best things I’ve ever seen. Drift’s also okay.
But… why is Grimlock green?! (Still totally getting him, though)
Because he’s green in Age of Extinction. If I had to guess.
Then why aren’t his Age of Extinction toys green? I mean, it’s not like it would’ve made them worse. :3
Because his AOE toys were made while the movie was in early stages. Hasbro basically finds out about what the movie will actually look like not long before we do. That’s why it took a while for Movie Optimus Prime toys to get swords – because it wasn’t until the first movie was basically out that they got to see a reel and OH HEY HE HAS SWORDS APPARENTLY. And, you know, that stuff can’t be implemented into toys that are already being put together in factories.
Platinum Grimlock, a redeco which was designed later, has him in green.

No April Fools’ gags from us today! Instead, here’s a short history of Transformers April Fools!
- In “Snow Fun!” (Transformers UK #267, April 1990), the Dinobots introduced Grimlock to April Fools’ Day by tricking him into thinking Shockwave was calling him out for a one-on-one duel. He didn’t take it well! Art by Jeff Anderson!
- In 2008, Fun Publications allowed a three-page “preview” of that year’s BotCon comic to “leak”, introducing the world to “Shattered Glass”. It was supposed to be a parody of the idea, but was so well-liked that it led the actual comic to be partially re-written, and proved hugely influential on the general tone of nearly all future Shattered Glass stories. Art by siphersaysstuff and Trent Troop!
- In 2009, during season 3 of Animated, art director Derrick J. Wyatt released this picture of upcoming characters that would be in the show, plus six “fake” characters that wouldn’t. We’d list them for you, but it doesn’t matter any more - they were all made official in The Allpark Almanac II!
