When I was a kid, Jetfire was my favorite Transformer because he looked so much like the Veritech fighters from Robotech, and I wanted to play with Veritech fighters so dang bad. Now, grown up me is like "waaaaaait a minute, they're the same damn thing." Is one a knock off of the other? (I could google this I'm sure, but I'm interested in your take.)
In the first few years of Transformers, all of its toys were licensed from various other toylines. Most of it came from Takara, but a few items came from other toylines. It wasn’t until later that toys were specifically designed to be Transformers.
