Hey folks! I did an article for POLYGON about all the lovely Transformers lore you can find in Transformers: War for Cybertron: Chapter One: Stege Siege, the new Transformers cartoon that popped up today on Netflix!

Well now, well now, WELL NOW. “Mesothulas.” He’s got Prowl strung up in webs… he’s clearly a scientist of some kind… he’s got an evil cackle… name ending in “-las”… “mesothelae” is a sub-order of spider… make you think of anyone?

Tarantulas WAS originally part of a ‘Secret Police’…that sounds like EXACTLY the kind of shady, sketchy as hell organisation that IDW Prowl would be involved with/RUNNING so this would actually totally make sense and I will be so fricking happy if we are getting IDW-verse Tarantulas in this miniseries

Honestly given all we’ve seen, Prowl having worked with Tarantulas before would not surprise me in the slightest, like that’s probably not even the most evil person Prowl has on his outer space friend list

He ate OTHER animals but he never ate another spider.
A Mech’s gotta have standards after all.
Wasn’t it strongly implied that he eats other Cybertronians though O.O
Like we never saw him eat one on screen because this was a show for all ages and cannibalism is frowned upon in such things but I am sure I remember him being totally up for eating at least one of the Maximals O.O
He seemed more interested in the organic bits, but still pretty creepy.
Rampage, on the other hand, was a known cannibal.
Rampage is basically Hannibal Lectre as a giant armoured crab monster and that sounds like it should be hillarious but it is actually horrifying O.O
And the most horrifying part is that he isn’t that way because he chose to be or something the Predacons made as one of their evil schemes, he’s something the MAXIMALS created which is probably the biggest ‘What the hell hero’ moment in anything ever
Yeah, but they were trying to clone the spark of a Decepticon, what’d they expect would happen? Optimus Prime 2.0?
The Maximal Elders were not trying to clone Starscream. They did experiments on an existing Maximal spark in an attempt to recreate properties of Starscream’s spark, specifically its indestructibility. It’s not like they had Starscream’s spark sitting around to clone it, anyway. They just Did Science on Maximal protoforms until one of them wouldn’t die.
Transformers Collectors Club Subscription Service 2.0 Exclusive Chromedome with Stylor. The figure looks FANTASTIC! I AM BEYOND HAPPY THEY GAVE HIM HIS MTMTE HEAD WITH THE YELLOW VISOR. But what sent me screaming around the room was his little bio-card:
During a dark era of Cybertronian history, Chromedome was partnered with Prowl - one of the most decorated members of the Autobot Police, renowned for being painfully detail-oriented and a stickler for procedure. Chromedome stuck with it however, and used this partnership and his position within the police to further his interests in mnemosurgery. The techniques he mastered allowed him to search a suspect’s mind and secure any information necessary for the case.
Interests soon changed to resentment as he was forced to use his skills, not only for interrogation, but also to reprogram individuals’ memories and alter their minds. Over the years he attempted to hide his inadvertently nefarious past as well as his ability to reach into others’ minds… until he ran into another Autobot obsessed with memories. Rewind was persistent and eventually dug his way into Chromedome’s past, and in doing so ensured a place in Chromedome’s future.

FROM THE VAULTS OF TRANSMASTERS UK - an early story from James Roberts! Printed in the Christmas 1999 issue of TMUK’s “Continued Generation 2″ fanzine comic, this story casts Huffer in the role of Scrooge in a Transformers take on “A Christmas Carol”. It includes appearances from current IDW/MTMTE fan favourites Prowl, Hot Rod, and Nightbeat, and proving people never really change, it is, of course, named after a Morrissey song. ;) Art is by TMUK mainstay Matt Dallas! Printed on a variety of paper stock and colours and pretty degraded by photocopying, I’ve cleaned it to the best of my limited ability.

I mean, if it’s not, then it’s totes okay to eat another human being so long as you’re both dressed up in different animal costumes.
