David @itswalky Willis commissioned a replacement head for Transformers: Power of the Primes Moonracer to convert the figure into IDW Rung. He’s sent in some great pics showing off the part, and the custom!

I don’t think there are any other female TFs that use the Combiner Wars system outside of Victorion and Megatronia (shameful Victorion redeco). So you’re a bit out of luck (also good luck obtaining Novastar, what with her being a 1-a-case tail-ender).

TakaraTomy’s releasing Novastar singularly, outside of the case assortment system, so that’s one way to get her without having to buy an entire case or stalk Walmarts.

Hey I was wondering if you knew the answer to this. Now I watched the first Live Action movie today, and I realized one thing I really disliked was the portrayal of Megatron, who apparently has always been a megalomaniac warlord. When in IDW it's shown he was once a miner who rebelled and started the decepticons to free all transformers. Now, is that just something IDW made, or was it the original story of the character.

As can be expected in Transformers, there are multiple histories behind each character even from the very beginning.

In the original Marvel comics, Megatron was a gladiator who eventually won the favor of a bunch of renegade Transformers during a time of peace and created the Decepticons, and war between them and the rest of the planet started when Megatron announced he was going to transform their planet into a mobile battlestation that would conquer the universe.

In the original cartoon, Megatron was created by the Decepticons (specifically built by the Constructicons in one of their many conflicting cartoon-continuity origins) to be their leader after war had already broke out.

Dreamwave comics were the first to suggest Megatron had any kind of non-evil motives at the heart of his movement. Again, he was a gladiator, but he realized as he grew in prominence as an athlete that Cybertron’s government was doing some shady things, and that the games were a purposeful distraction.

IDW’s “Megatron Origin” story, where we first learn Megatron was a low-class miner (with luxurious metal hair under his helmet) before he found himself a gladiator, was originally written for Dreamwave before it went under. It was the first proper attempt at trying to show a more nuanced side to Megatron, that Cybertron’s “golden age” was really only a golden age for the few and fortunate, as is often the case for golden ages in the real world. Megatron Origin was pretty shallow and not terribly compelling, though, and there was one point at which it was asked on IDW’s forums if it would be okay if they just retconned it out. This obviously didn’t happen, but James Roberts and John Barber (and Flint Dille and Chris Metzen) found a way to salvage it by writing around it and strengthening it with lots of supplementary material.

While all this IDW stuff was going on, parts of it were borrowed for the Transformers Prime/War for Cybertron stuff on television and novels. In these, Megatron was again a gladiator who saw corruption in Cybertron’s government, and a twist was added that put Optimus Prime/Orion Pax at his side early in the war, before the two became enemies. (Y’know, Professor X/Magneto-style.) IDW borrowed back from this, making Optimus Prime and Megatron philosophical friends before the war. The Prime/WFC backstory and IDW sort of worked in lockstep like this over the past few years.

So it is true that the version of Megatron you like was birthed mostly in IDW, but there are seeds of it as far back as Marvel, with Dreamwave and Transformers Prime making much larger contributions.

If I’m not mistaken, James Roberts has gone on the record saying Tarn sounds like Keith David. Personally, I don’t read with voices in my head 99% of the time – I think the only voice I really hear in my head when I read anything is Nick Offerman for Axecop. It’s impossible for me to read Axecop without hearing Nick Offerman. Anything else, I kind of have to force voices in my head, otherwise, nothing.

I don’t have any guesses on Rung’s altmode. I’ll be happy to find out eventually maybe, though!

Last week I said I’d read the IDW Transformers comics if they ever came up in a Humble Bundle or something because I knew they had already been in a Humble Bundle and didn’t think they’d do another one anytime soon, and today they did one and now I have to read these 75 issues of Transformers comics that I just paid twelve bucks for and let me tell you I am just FURIOUS about this.
