This version of Jacob won’t finish college either, but mostly because nobody in Dumbing of Age will because Dumbing of Age will be in college forever and ever.
Dumbing of Age book 2 needs some new character art, so here’s Jason and Sal.
Let’s compare, old to new.
(The new stuff is the nonshitty pair in the middle.)
And one row further out: Jason/Sal bobblehead dolls.

This is today’s Dumbing of Age strip. My mother’s funeral was yesterday, and she died of cancer she was diagnosed with just ten weeks ago. That’s shorter than my buffer.
It’s very eerie to come home from Indiana to this strip up today. Joyce is essentially singing in regards to the loss of her faith, but here’s the thing – it is also about losing her mother. For me, stepping away from my fundamentalist evangelical Christian upbringing meant having to step away from everyone I’d ever known, including my own mother. There is no point at which my mother ends and Jesus begins. That was, by her choice, her full identity.
Her funeral service hammered this into me again. Jesus was her world, and I wasn’t in that world anymore. There wasn’t room in her brain or heart for anything outside that. It was all evil pagan corruptive nonsense otherwise. And I knew this, and I stepped away, and it burned a hole in me for years.
I lost my mom fifteen years ago, really. I think it’s part of why I’m not a blubbering mess right now. I did my mourning stretched out over a decade.
But in this comic strip, Joyce is starting to feel it freshly. It’s new and raw. I’m back in there again. It really sucks.
Three months ago, I wrote about Joyce grappling with God, but unwittingly wrote my mom’s eulogy.
