NYCC - Titans Return Transformers Hardhead, Skullcruncher
I made a Lug! (I also made an Anode, but I’ve already put up pictures of her.)
I made my Anode using this Shapeways face by @therobotmonster on a repainted Titans Return Windblade body.
I made my Lug using this Shapeways head by @therobotmonster on a repainted Titans Return Rewind body.
My first Titans Return deluxe class toy!
The nosecone backpack isn’t officially supposed to go like that, but it can hang there fine with gravity, and to me the shoulder guns are an important part of his silhouette, so I’m doing it.
So in Titans Return, most of the heads are based on something. Of course they are, this is a G1-rehash line. Everything is something old. Sure, Blurr’s headguy is really Stylor and Scourge’s headguy is really Nightstick (Fracas and Nightstick trade models all the time anyway), and Sentinel Prime, Galvatron, Blaster, and Soundwave are themselves, but…

…the Titan Masters size class, which are just heads and a transforming vehicle, gives us all these recognizable noggins that transform into…. not their previous partners. I have no idea where these designs are from. Nightbeat sure ain’t either Muzzle or Quig! And considering every other damn headguy in Titans Return is a callback to SOMETHING, it’s driving me mad that I don’t know who these guys are.
For a bright shining moment I thought Horri-Bull might be himself, but there’s too many conspicuous differences and I was once again defeated.
But seriously, this is causing this nerd some anxiety. WHO ARE THEY???
I… really think you’re overthinking this. I see some (vague) similarities in the head and face designs, and Brisko there shares a lot of the same color mapping. To me, it just looks like a series of really liberal interpretations of the “Headmaster Jr” characters, especially as their adding detail to characters that had to be limited by design.
I think YOU’RE overthinking this. All the guys in the top image are really obviously supposed to be a guy. Like, detail-for-detail, they are a specific guy that makes sense. You don’t have to pretend that Blaster looks like Blaster or that Vorath looks like Vorath, because they all overwhelmingly do. Their inspirations are apparent on the face of it. There are no leaps of logic. There’s no “massaging” them into one thing or another. There’s no “oh that’s close enough.”
The guys in the bottom image are completely different. They are definitely not obviously inspired by anything. None of them match up to who you’d expect them to match up to. Muzzle does not have a giant dial on his chest, and he doesn’t have any of those other details either. Like, none of them. If you are telling me that Siren’s headrobot looks anything at all like Quig, then you are telling me goddamn tales.
Now, one of us applying Occam’s Razor, and the other is stretching or obfuscating what’s apparent in order to fit a desired narrative, and I think the Occam’s Razor guy is the one who says the folks on the bottom are clearly approached differently.
(hint: occam’s razor guy is me)
Titans Return Deluxes, sans Chromedome.
