Riddler matte painting from Batman: The Animated Series (from the episode “Riddler’s Reform,” I think?). Scanned from Batman Animated.
The best Riddler.
Remember that awesome mini-movie that opened every episode of Batman: The Animated Series? Police blimps, bank robbery, thrilling instrumental score?
Yeah. Italy didn’t get that. It got this.
Note that this is the television edit of the Italian BTAS intro song, and the full version is a minute and a half longer.
This was my ringtone for a long while.

welcome welcome to the fuuuturrrrre
Today is the 20th Anniversary of BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES. I didn’t write anything new because I was busy detailing the miseries of Funky Winkerbean last night, but here are some things I’ve written about the show in the past:
1: The Ten Best Episodes of Batman: The Animated Series - “Best,” of course, being a shorter version of “my personal favorites.” I still think people who don’t like “The Forgotten” are the wrongest wrongs in Wrongtown, though.
2: The 14 Best Title Cards - One of my favorite things about the series, and one of the factors contributing to its unique look and beautiful aesthetic.
3: A Shot-By-Shot Breakdown Of The Opening Sequence - How B:TAS tells you everything you need to know about Batman in 57 dialogue-free seconds.
4: Animated Batmanology: Tyger Tyger - David Uzumeri and I break down one of the all-time worst episodes of the series, in which Catwoman turns into a cat woman.
BONUS: War Rocket Ajax partner-in-crime Matt Wilson writes up the ten worst episodes, which surprisingly doesn’t have any overlap with my ten best.
This show is why I read comics. Yay!
….on second thought, maybe I should be angry at it.
The absurd wonders of Bat-merch. A faucet accessory in the shape of the Bruce Timm Batman’s head, branded The Adventures of Batman and Robin. Of COURSE children will enjoy brushing their teeth more if water streams out of Batman’s forehead!
