this movie was way too heavy for its intended age group
it’s actually really perfect for all ages because when kids learn this stuff early in life it stays with them
Dude this is no where NEAR “too heavy”. This was one of those movies that actually treated me like I had a brain and thought legitimate thoughts. This was a movie where the stakes were real and it was clear that awful things might actually happen. They almost get NUKED. And even as a kid I understood that. I loved the way this movie treated me as a child. Because the character acted like a real kid, and there was a touch of realism to it.
I’m misquoting Bruce Coville, but “Why should we protect children from the worst parts of human nature when children are usually the ones affected by it?”
pfffft, it’s realer if they teach you there are no souls
