At every convention, I pass out free bookmarks that have a strip on each side of them, and these are cool ways to get folks to know what you’re about and later hopefully remember you, or to offer folks who are already fans but don’t have any dough. I figured at SDCC, I should probably leverage my superhero character, Amazi-Girl, because, I dunno, that’s smart, I think. But I don’t really have any good stand-alone Amazi-Girl strips that are recent enough that I still like the art, or that they’re not too dependent on sexual themes or too violent or full of curse words or what have you. Amazi-Girl’s best strips are her beating the shit out of her father, or are otherwise fine punchlines but preceded by a few panels of stuff that don’t make sense without context. I need these things to both be able to be picked up by kids, no problem, and to be understood completely by strangers completely foreign to my work.
So I decided, y’know, fuck it, I’ll draw a new stand-alone strip with Amazi-Girl in it. My first attempt was a little too esoteric, I think, but I’ll keep it for later (Probably a Patreon bonus strip). This one, though, is pretty cool. Honestly I just wanted to draw some sweet backflips. I dunno if I’ll end up also using this one on Patreon or putting it somewhere into the buffer or if I’ll end up dumping it here, but I wanted to show off some pencils anyway.
