did anyone do a google search during the making of this movie? Franklin’s last name is Armstrong
If you read that page, you’ll see that Franklin’s last name was introduced in a tv special and not the comic strip itself, and thus is considered apocryphal. Likewise, Marcie’s last name in the cartoons was “Johnson,” not “Carlin.”
But it’s definitely weird that Marcie gets a (second) last name while Franklin gets nothing.
(also, Pig-Pen is on the list as “Pig-Pen,” obviously)
biteswhenprovoked said: It’s Mark Hamill’s Joker, right? He’s the best Joker.
I am going to be incredibly brave and say YES, Mark Hamill is the best Joker. Please no hate mail!
Look, I just re-watched Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker today, and he had some prime line deliveries in that. And some might point to the flashback scene as the best stuff, I think his quips with Terry are better. With Bruce, he was dedicated to destroying him and so was just being a friggin’ jag– with Terry, he was having fun because he wasn’t taking Terry seriously.
“Well, if it’s a whoopin’ yer a-wantin’!”

How did the animators at Blue Sky achieve the animation language of ‘The Peanuts Movie’?
This article via denofgeek.com highlights the creative cheats used with the goal of retaining Charles Schulz’s idiosyncratic comic strip look and charm.
“I don’t understand…what is their problem with Joker and Harley? It feels like the most natural ship in comics.” - Gail Simone
Gail Simone one minute: Feminism!
The next: Joker and Harley is the most natural thing evarz!
So this is her idea of ideal romance? Something is terribly wrong.
Yes,…
Huh.
Well, first, I never read that story, and I’m not sure what it’s from. The truth is, most of my sense of Harley came from her appearances in the animated series and her own ongoing title. My understanding, as well, is that a lot of Joker/Harley shippers have their own headcanon, and I doubt stuff like this is in it.
I would have to read this story in context. It looks troubling, but I don’t judge fic writers based on canon, the whole point seems to be that they have made their own reality.
It’s the original comic book ending to “Mad Love.” When it was later adapted into a cartoon episode, they sort of wisely dialed a little back on the “him punching me = him kissing me” inner monologue, replacing it with something similar but different. Mind, that’s still the entire point of Harley Quinn’s relationship with the Joker as presented in probably her most important story. It’s an abusive relationship. But I’m not sure what other kind of relationship you could conceivably have with the Joker. He’s kind of not a nice guy.
I don’t think I would equate liking Harley Quinn and the Joker’s relationship to being anti-feminist, as the original poster seems to be… extracting… somehow. Not everything we read or write or enjoy has to be exactly what we believe. People are dumb and have faults, and so should fictional people. We can see our own humanity in these flawed people, and we can feel close to them even if we recognize that they’re not great role models.
Sort of like how I can enjoy Batman while also feeling like it’s not a great idea for a rich dude to run through the streets at night punching poor people.
My favorite queer-coded Disney princess.
