Rush Limbaugh Thinks ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ Is An Anti-Romney Conspiracy — Really
By Chris Sims
With the release of The Dark Knight Rises coming up on Friday, anticipation for Christopher Nolan’s final Batman film has reached a fever pitch. Still, I don’t think anyone expected the media hype to get to the level of ridiculousness it managed to achieve this week, when political commentator Rush Limbaugh claimed that the character of Bane was included in the film as part of a vast media conspiracy against Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s association with investment firm Bain Capital. The jury’s still out on whether Limbaugh actually believes this or if he’s participating in some incredible trolling, but either way it comes as news to Chuck Dixon and Graham Nolan, who apparently orchestrated a Democratic conspiracy almost 20 years ahead of the election when they co-created Bane with Doug Moench in 1993 — especially since they’re two of comics’ most prominent conservatives.

Some great news! There will be a Community panel at Comic Con this year. No panel details yet. Just an announcement!

That noise you hear is the sound of the Greendale Gang packing for San Diego. TVLine has learned exclusively that there will be a Community panel at Comic-Con after all.

Meanwhile, the mystery surrounding another in-limbo session — this one for Castle — has also been solved: The ABC hit will sadly be MIA at next month’s geekapalooza.

Regarding Community, there had been speculation that given all of the off-screen drama surrounding series creator Dan Harmon’s controversial departure that the show might sit out of the Con this year. But all that talk was apparently much ado about nothing. An official announcement is expected in the coming days, but rumor has it nearly the entire Greendale 7 will be in attendance.

Turning to Castle, there’s no official explanation regarding its Comic-Con disappearing act, but Castle scribe Terri Edda Miller tweeted late Monday that “the show was not invited,” adding, “[ABC has] new shows [to] put forward now.”

One possible bright spot for Castle fans: We hear leading man Nathan Fillion is slated to make an appearance at the convention, although the what/when/where of it all is still being worked out.

Anti-Censorship Win of the Day: In a major victory for the Internet, and major blow to its would-be censors, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), co-sponsor of SOPA’s sister bill PIPA, has officially withdrawn his support for the legislation.
“I have been a co-sponsor of the PROTECT IP Act because I believe it’s important to protect American ingenuity, ideas and jobs from being stolen through Internet piracy, much of it occurring overseas through rogue websites in China,” the Senator wrote in a post on his Facebook page. “However, we must do this while simultaneously promoting an open, dynamic Internet environment that is ripe for innovation and promotes new technologies.”
In addition to withdrawing his support out of “concerns about the impact the bill could have on access to the Internet,” Sen. Rubio also urges Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid “to abandon his plan to rush the bill to the floor.”
PIPA is currently slated to be voted on next Tuesday, January 24th.

Holy crap, a FL Republican congressman does the right thing? :O I’m genuinely surprised. They usually don’t budge down here.

R.I.P. Jerry Robinson, Creator of The Joker
By Andy Khouri
The comics community woke up Thursday morning to the sad news that Jerry Robinson, creator of the legendary Batman villain The Joker, had passed away. Besides his invaluable contributions to the medium during its Golden Age, Robinson was throughout his life a vocal proponent of creators’ rights and representing the comics medium as a true art form and creatively valid form of storytelling and expression.
Robinson’s storied career in comics began in 1939, when he was hired by Bob Kane to work as a letterer and inking assistant on the then-new Batman character. During his time with Kane and writer Bill Finger, Robinson created comic books that saw the first appearances of Robin, the Boy Wonder and The Joker. As is typical in cases of Golden Age comics, there is debate as to who exactly created what, but Robinson is popularly credited with inventing the substance of The Joker, and served as a creative consultant to Christopher Nolan’s hugely popular and highly acclaimed Joker-centric Batman film, The Dark Knight. In his later career, Robinson became known as an ambassador for the comic book medium. As CBR points out in its obituary for the cartoonist, Robinson curated comic book shows in art galleries and authored The Comics, a definitive text on the history of comics art that is still available in a new edition from Dark Horse. DC Comics Co-Publishers Jim Lee and Dan DiDio and Batman Group Editor Mike Marts released the following statements:

“Jerry Robinson illustrated some of the defining images of pop culture’s greatest icons. As an artist myself, it’s impossible not to feel humbled by his body of work. Everyone who loves comics owes Jerry a debt of gratitude for the rich legacy that he leaves behind.”-Jim Lee, DC Entertainment Co-Publisher and artist of BATMAN: HUSH”
Jerry Robinson was one of the greats. He continued to be a vibrant, creative force, with ideas and thoughts that continue to inspire. Jerry was a great advocate for creators. It was my pleasure to meet and work with him. He will be missed.”-Dan DiDio, Co-Publisher, DC Entertainment”
It’s impossible to work at DC Entertainment without feeling the impact of Jerry Robinson’s contributions to the industry. His influence continues to resonate today.”-Bob Harras, DC Entertainment Editor-in-Chief”
Jerry Robinson was an innovator, a pioneer in storytelling. His artwork was always astonishing, but his contributions to the Dark Knight mythology go far beyond art. The streets of Gotham City are a little lonelier today…Jerry will truly be missed.”-Mike Marts, BATMAN editor

Jerry Robinson was 89.
